New signing Lennard Sowah has expressed his excitement at joining Hearts and is now ready to hit the ground running in a maroon jersey.
The 24-year-old German full-back joins the Jambos as a free agent, having left fellow Ladbrokes Premiership side Hamilton Academical earlier this month.
The left-sided player has previously played for the likes of Hamburg SV and Portsmouth and is now aiming to further his career at Tynecastle. Speaking exclusively to Hearts TV, Lennard said:
“When I got the offer from Hearts I was really excited about it and I think it’s the right decision for me to sign for Hearts.
“I feel right at home in Scotland. I’ve played in England before and I love the passion for the game over here.
“I’ve had a great welcome from the boys here and they seem like good people.”
The defender joined Hamilton on a short-term deal back in October and featured briefly against Hearts in the thrilling 3-3 draw at New Douglas Park earlier this season.
“I came on for the last two or three minutes in the draw at New Douglas Park. It was clear then that it was a good team, it wasn’t an easy game on the astroturf but Hearts did well to come back to get 3-3.”
As a teenager Lennard spent a period with the Arsenal youth academy before joining Portsmouth, where he made a handful of Premier League appearances. So what can the maroon faithful expect from the new signing?
“I was only 17 or 18 when I played down there, it was definitely very exciting but that’s in the past. I’m here now and that’s all I’m focused on.
“My favourite position is left-back but I can also play in the middle or out on the wing. But left-back is where I prefer to play and I will do my very best to help the team succeed.”
