Souttar: Momentum building

30th August 2021

John Souttar wants the Jambos to continue building on their impressive start to the league campaign and he revealed he’s savouring every minute in a maroon jersey.

The centre-half was part of the defence that kept a clean sheet in Saturday’s 2-0 win at Dundee United, which keeps the Jam Tarts joint top of the league heading into next week’s Edinburgh derby.

Unbeaten in the league, the 24-year-old feels there is momentum building in Gorgie and he’s enjoying being a part of it.

“We couldn’t ask for more,” he said. “It has been a great start but we have just got to build on it. It’s been an enjoyable first block.

“But we have to build on it now after the international break. There’s momentum building. It’s a big game against Hibs at home when we are back.

“We have started well but have to continue this. It is two teams which are playing well. Any derby is a good game, so it will be good. We just need to keep it going.

"I’m just enjoying every minute of every game. I’m not taking anything for granted, I’m just enjoying my football.

"To be back out there has been brilliant. I’m just enjoying it.  The way I look at football has changed.

“When you go through that you can’t take anything for granted. All the time I spend on the pitch I’m grateful. I’m just enjoying my football.

"I think that comes when you lose something. You never then take it for granted. You just savour every minute.”
