Craig Levein insists his team go into tonight’s friendly against Arbroath on the back of an encouraging start to pre-season training.
The Jambos have spent the past couple of days at a training camp in St Andrews and will take to the field for their first pre-season game at Gayfield this evening.
It has been a busy summer at Tynecastle so far with no less than 10 new players joining the club and the Manager has been pleased with preparations so far.
“I’m happy with the way things have been going. The main thing is we don’t have any serious injuries or anything that is going to keep anybody out for any length of time,” said Craig.
“We’ve got a couple of niggles but nothing that I’m too worried about.
“As for the new players, I’m not judging them too early. Back in my playing days, I found that I needed three or four competitive matches at the start of the season to really get up to full speed. In general, however, I’m very happy with them all.”
Craig will get his first opportunity to watch his new look team in action against Arbroath tonight and will look to give his players as much game time as possible.
“We’ll be playing two completely different elevens in each half and we’ll have some of the young kids on the bench as well.
“So it’ll be 45 minutes each today but we’ll quickly move into the full 90 minutes for our games this weekend.”
