Alim Ozturk has revealed that he’s looking forward to helping the club’s young players develop after being handed the captain’s armband.
The centre-half will skipper the Jambos in this season’s Ladbrokes Premiership campaign after head coach Robbie Neilson decided to make him his leader.
Alim can’t wait to pass on his knowledge to the next generation of Hearts stars, after experiencing it for himself as a young player abroad.
Speaking to HeartsTV this morning, he said: “Robbie spoke to me about responsibility and stuff like that. I need to help the young guys as well. I’ll do that and I tried that last year as well, I’ll do it now a little bit more.
“I’m looking forward to passing on my experience and knowledge. I love to help the young players.
“When I was young I was always happy when the players helped me. I will try and do that now.”
From winning league titles to being nominated for the Championship’s team of the year, Alim has enjoyed several successes since joining the club last summer. But he can now point to this moment as being his proudest.
“It’s a really proud moment for me,” he said. “I’m honoured to be captain of a club like Hearts, a really big club. I’m really proud.
“Of course, it is the proudest moment of my career. There have been a few good moments but this one is a really, really big thing for me.
“I’ve now got more responsibility, but I will do everything to represent Hearts as good as possible.”
