Scotland's number one chuffed with three points

3rd March 2022

Craig Gordon says he was just happy to get the three points, after another heroic performance for Hearts between the sticks.

Scotland’s number one saved Lewis Ferguson’s second-half penalty at Tynecastle to help protect the Jambos’ two goal lead at a critical point in the game – and ensured all three points stayed in Gorgie.
Having now built on last week’s win in Paisley, Craig says he was very pleased with how his teammates maintained their winning ways in the cinch Premiership.
“Another good performance. We were the dominant team throughout the match, I felt and deserved the win,” he told Hearts TV.
“Really happy with the two wins back-to-back, which puts us in a really strong position going forward. Very happy with the three points tonight.
“I think both John and Stephen have got four of five each this season – and it’s vital that the defenders pop up with odd goal here and there for us. Two great finishes but they’re two good football players so we know they have good technique. We know they can score those kinds of goals: the leap from Kingsley for the header was outstanding.
“With the penalty given at a bit of a dodgy time, twenty minutes from the end, we knew how important it was to keep that two-goal advantage. It allowed us to see out the game a bit more comfortably.
“For me, it’s a good save. I think he {Lewis Ferguson} had a perfect record up until that moment – so he had to miss one at some point and thankfully it contributed to the three points.”
