Robbie Neilson believes his squad is shaping up well for the season ahead and can't wait to do battle with Celtic this coming Sunday.
The Jambos have had to make due with limited game time since their Europa League tie against Birkirkara on July 21st. An internal bounce game is the only match preparation they’ve had since, however, Robbie insists his side are ready to go for Sunday.
Speaking to the press at Tynecastle on Friday, the Head Coach said:
“It’s a good game to start off the season with. Yes we’ve only had one game since Birkirkara, but our fitness levels are very good and we’ve had the best part of two weeks to really focus and prepare on the training ground.
“You have to remember that we’ve played four competitive games leading up to this, so we feel we are ready for the challenge on Sunday.
“The Celtic match is huge for us. We were all bitterly disappointed with the result in Europe but that’s in the past, we now have to focus on beating Celtic.”
The Head Coach has made a number of signings over the summer months, bringing in the likes of Faycal Rherras, Conor Sammon and Tony Watt to name but a few. So how does he assess his squad ahead of the new campaign?
“I’m delighted with the players we have brought in over the summer. Have I got a better side now compared to what I had at this time last year? Absolutely. We have a more experienced team as well.”
