New signing Gavin Reilly has admitted he had to pinch himself when he heard Hearts were interested in him, but now he’s here he can’t wait to make an impact.
The 22-year-old today penned a three-year deal at Tynecastle, following the expiration of his contract at Queen of the South.
The striker knows competition for places will be fierce, but he’ll use it to spur him on to make an impression on the coaching staff.
Speaking to HeartsTV this morning, Gavin said: “It was a wee bit overwhelming; a club the size of Hearts being interested in me, it’s brilliant. Credit to myself for the performances I was putting in last season, hopefully I can do the fans justice and the club justice for coming to sign me.
“Robbie said he’s been impressed by my workrate and my pace, and also my goal-scoring record. Hopefully I can use those skills and talents and bring them here.
“He’s told me I’m not going to play every game but hopefully I can work hard and try and play every game. Hopefully I’ll get a good pre-season under my belt to begin with and who knows what will happen?
“I’ll definitely use competition for places as motivation to spur me on. Robbie told me about when you come up to the Premiership there are bigger squads and more rotation and I understand that, but I’m just glad to be given this chance to play in the Premiership for the a club this size and hopefully I can do well.”
Gavin's interview is available to watch in full now on HeartsTV.
