Robbie Neilson believes his team simply weren't good enough on the day as Motherwell ran out 2-0 winners at Fir Park on Saturday afternoon.
Goals from Connor Shields and Ricki Lamie, the latter coming just after Hearts had been reduced to ten men following Taylor Moore's second booking, condemned the Jambos to their second league defeat of the season.
"I am disappointed. I didn't think we played well today, it was probably one of the worst games I have seen for a while," said Robbie.
"The game didn't flow, it was free-kick, throw-in, corner, free-kick, throw-in corner and we couldn't get any flow in the game.
"To be honest, in the first half we probably had the better of the chances. Gino is one v one, Ben goes through, we had a couple of other ones who went through and we never took them today.
"We know it is going to be direct, second balls, free-kicks and if you give them the lead they are going to kill the game so you live and learn."
