Reaction: Robbie Neilson

22nd August 2021

The Jambos played out a 1-1 draw in front of more than 17,000 supporters at Tynecastle on Sunday and Robbie Neilson was delighted to welcome a packed crowd back to Gorgie.

Hearts were denied a victory as Funso Ojo cancelled out Liam Boyce's second half penalty, however, Robbie still believes there are plenty of positives to take from the start of the season.

"We asked for a performance from the players in front of a full house and I thought we were exceptional in the first half. We pressed really well, controlled the game and created a number of chances," he explained.

"In the second half we're probably not quite at the level we'd like to get to. There's always a bit of disappointment when you're ahead and don't win the game but we've had three really tough games to start the season. To be sitting joint-top of the league unbeaten is fantastic."

For the first time since March 2020, Tynecastle returned to capacity and was back to its rapturous best for the full 90 minutes.

"Honestly it's like night and day having the fans back. You come out the tunnel at the start of the game and the place was rocking. Some of our players haven't experienced this before, it's so intense."

"We now go up to Dundee United on Saturday and we hope to take a big crowd up there. I remember going up there with Hearts as a player after a good start to the season and we had a massive crowd with us and I'd love for that to happen again."
