Hearts’ Community Football Department is teaming up with Kirkliston & South Queensferry FC (KSQ) to deliver two of their popular Summer Play the Game Courses this July and August.
The aim of the partnership with KSQ, one of the region’s largest grassroots clubs, is to encourage more youngsters to get active during the holidays. Initially, the partnership was to run one Play the Game Course between the 12th-16th July, however, after releasing this course to current KSQ players, this sold out within a matter of days. With demand still high for this exciting opportunity the clubs have decided to run a second course between the 9th-13th August to satisfy the demand and give more kids the opportunity to get active.
These courses, supported by DPS Group and the Scottish FA, are open to players of all abilities aged between 5-12 years with the focus firmly on developing football skills in a fun-filled environment. The sessions aim to offer a balance between coaching and allowing players to experience exciting game-based activities and challenges.
KSQ are an SFA gold quality mark club with over 400 players from the ages of 4 right through to over 35’s.
In recent years, Hearts’ Community Football Department have enjoyed successful partnerships with LIVE Borders, East Lothian Council, and other grassroots clubs such as Edinburgh City Youth, Currie Star, and Tranent Colts which have enabled hundreds of youngsters to enjoy the popular Play the Game courses throughout Edinburgh, the Lothians and beyond.
C.J Sandison, Hearts’ Community Co-ordinator, said:
“We’re delighted to be running these courses in partnership with one of the biggest grassroots clubs in the Lothians. We already engage with KSQ through some of our other Play the Game programmes such as our Expos and clubs programmes as well as many of their teams having joined us on the hallowed turf for our Half-Time Heroes programme over the years.
“To see the first course sell out in a matter of days shows the appetite for football in the local community. We hope this link helps KSQ build on the superb work they’ve been doing in Kirkliston and South Queensferry over the years to encourage a culture of football in the local area that we can both maintain and expand on for years to come.”
Darren McGinnis, Secretary at KSQ, added:
“This partnership allows us to offer an opportunity to the kids in the local community to come down to Allison Park to enjoy a week with their friends and the team from Hearts at a time when this sort of thing is so crucial for the kids, especially after the last 18 months. We want to see kids getting out of the house and active again.”
With KSQ Chairman, Euan Hoy, adding:
“We’re really looking forward to this new partnership showcasing the good work that can be done through the power of grassroots football. We hope that the pull of both the Hearts and KSQ badges encourages youngsters to come along to join us for what I’m sure will be a couple of great weeks.”
