Hearts’ Community Football Department is teaming up with local grassroots club Currie Star F.C. to deliver a Summer Play the Game Course at Dovecot Park.
The course, supported by DPS Group and the Scottish FA, is open to players of all abilities aged between 5-13 years. The focus is firmly on games based activities that allow for the young players to develop skills, improve decision making and improvise, as well as increasing their ownership of the game. The sessions aim to offer a balance between coaching and allowing players to experience exciting games and challenges that add to their time off school. As well as this, all players will receive a gift and certificate.
In recent times, Hearts’ Community Football Department have enjoyed successful partnerships with LIVE Borders, Edinburgh City Youth, East Lothian Council and Tranent Colts throughout Edinburgh, the Borders and East Lothian.
Alan White, Hearts’ Head of Community, said:
“We’re delighted to be running this course in partnership with one of Edinburgh’s leading grassroots clubs. We already engage with Currie Star through some of our other programmes and many of their teams have joined us at recent Play the Game Expo’s and through our Jambos Kickback Half-Time Heroes experience. We hope this link encourages a culture of football in the local area that we can maintain and expand on for years to come.”
John Brock, Chairman of Currie Star F.C., added:
“We’re looking forward to this new partnership showcasing the good work that can be done through the power of grassroots football. Hearts have already provided us with opportunities for a number of our age groups to play at Oriam and on the pitch at Tynecastle so this course will just add to our relationship. We hope that the pull of both the Hearts and Currie Star badges encourage youngsters to come along to join us for what I’m sure will be a great week.”
