Play the Game team up with Linlithgow Rose

4th June 2021

Hearts’ Community Football Department is partnering up with Linlithgow Rose Community FC to deliver one of their popular Play the Game Courses this Summer.

The aim of partnering with Linlithgow, one of the West Lothian’s largest grassroots clubs, is to encourage local youngsters to get out of the house, socialise with friends and to engage with their love for playing the game.

The course, supported by DPS Group and the Scottish FA, is open to players of all abilities aged between 5-12 years and the focus is firmly on developing football skills in a fun-filled environment. The sessions aim to offer a balance between coaching and allowing players to experience exciting game-based activities and challenges.

Linlithgow Rose Community are one of 10 SFA platinum quality mark clubs in the South East region, with over 450 players from the ages of 4 right through to 18, including an extensive girls section, and affiliated male and female amateur teams too.

Hearts Community Football have numerous courses this summer across various venues such as Tynecastle Park, Galashiels, Kirkliston and now Linlithgow – with more courses to be announced soon in East Lothian. The Community Football team look to engage with local grassroots clubs, like Linlithgow, to support them in retaining youngsters passion for the game, educating coaches to deliver exciting, kid friendly sessions as well as offering clubs the chance to take part in Play the Game Expo’s and play on the hallowed turf through their Half-Time Heroes programme.

C.J Sandison, Hearts’ Community Co-ordinator, said on the partnership:

“Linlithgow have long been supporters of our Play the Game programme, and are regulars at our Play the Game Expo’s, which makes them the ideal club to partner up with for our Summer Play the Game Courses. We hope this link helps Linlithgow build on the superb work they’ve been doing in the local community over the years and provides an opportunity for the kids of West Lothian to get out, get active and maintain or reignite their passion for football.”

Russell Gordon, Secretary at Linlithgow Rose Community, added:

“We’re excited to be partnering up with a club like Hearts to offer kids at our club, and in the local community, this fantastic opportunity. It has been a tough time throughout the past year and half for everyone, but especially young kids who have spent a lot of time indoors and away from their friends. We hope this partnership course will help develop our young players, but more so, put a smile on their faces.”

With Linlithgow Rose Community Chairman, Alistair Paton, adding:

“We’re looking forward to joining Hearts to showcase the good work that can be achieved through the power of grassroots football. We hope that the pull of both the Hearts and Linlithgow badges encourage youngsters to come along to join us for what I’m sure will be a fantastic week.”
