Peter Haring has revealed that the lure of European football wasn’t what initially attracted him to Hearts, but he now has it firmly in his sights.
The Austrian midfielder was one of several first-team stars to fall victim to the club’s injury curse, eventually undergoing double hernia surgery during the winter break.
Now he’s nearing a return to action, the 25-year-old can put his frustrations behind him and focus on helping the team look up the Ladbrokes Premiership table as the business end of the season approaches.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Peter said: “It’s the most important time of the season, I think.
“Our targets, we can still reach them so all the important games are coming up. That’s where we want to be at the end of the season; we want to make the top four, at least, and then play in Europe next season.
“I don’t know if we have a lot of players who have already played in Europe but it’s a big target for every player and for the club as well.
“In the summer, when I came here and signed the club was big enough, I didn’t need another attraction. It’s important for the club to get back into Europe, and for us players as well. For next season it’s a huge attraction for all of our players.
“I’m feeling good, overall. Everything went well with the surgery. After the op I was at home for a couple of days then I came back. I started my recovery with the physios and everything went well.
“Of course, I was a little bit frustrated to sit in the stands. I think it was a little bit different because I knew that I was going to have my surgery in the winter break, but it was still not the best feeling to sit on the outside and watch the lads playing.
“Now I’m happy to be back.”
