Our history and our future

16th November 2016

Ann Budge gives an update on the club's future after a weekend of remembering its history.

Last Sunday saw the club conduct the traditional HMFC Remembrance Service at the Hearts War Memorial at Haymarket.  The service this year was particularly poignant, being the centenary of the Battle of the Somme.  An estimated 1200 to 1500 people came to pay their respects both in an individual capacity and as representatives of a wide range of supportive organisations, city institutions and football clubs.  Our own club was represented by members of the Board, the management, the staff and the players...both past and present.

This annual service focuses our minds on events in the past and on a history of which we are all so very proud.  Building on that proud history, we must now, once again, focus on the future and with that in mind let me bring you up-to-date with our current plans.

Following on from the unanimous approval received, last month, from the City of Edinburgh Council's Planning Committee for the redevelopment of the Main Stand at Tynecastle, I am delighted to say that the demolition works, essential to enable this project to move ahead, are now officially under way.

Our plan is to have the entire area in front of the existing Main Stand, including Tynecastle Nursery School, completely demolished by the 23rd December, with the new works, beginning with putting in place the new main girder truss, scheduled to begin on the 4th January.  Once the demolition is complete, a panoramic view of the existing Main Stand will be revealed...a view that has not been seen for over a hundred years.  While thousands of Hearts fans will have the opportunity to see this new perspective at our last two home games of the year, for those not able to do so, never fear.  We are working on a time lapse camera project which will keep a record of the whole demolition and construction process for posterity.

During this transitional period, our Clubstore and Ticket Centre are being relocated to the Undercroft of the Wheatfield Stand.  We are currently working hard to complete new and safe access routes to the new premises and ask for your patience while we finalise this work.  We will reopen as soon as we are able to do so and meanwhile ask you to continue to support our retail operation by shopping online.  Our relocation sale continues on and you can also show your support via the official club e-bay channel on  We will make an announcement on the grand opening of the new Clubstore and Ticket Centre in the next few days.

Meanwhile, match tickets can be bought, subject to availability through two of the club's sales channels: online at Hearts eTickets, or over the phone by calling 0333 043 1874, option 1.

Similarly, there is severely limited access to the new club offices in the Wheatfield Undercroft and therefore, for the moment,  we advise that you use the above numbers and e-mail addresses, or the main club switchboard number (which is 0333 043 1874) if you need to contact us, rather than turning up in person.

In closing, we are once again moving into exciting times for Hearts fans, both young and old, and your continued loyal support is hugely appreciated as we write this new chapter of our story together.

Thank You,

Ann Budge
