Hearts’ final warm up game of pre-season takes place on Friday night when Ian Cathro’s side host English Premier League giants Newcastle United.
The Toon Army’s first-team will grace the Tynecastle turf in what will be their first friendly match of the season, as the Jambos take in one last test ahead of the start of the competitive season.
The likes of Serbian star Aleksandar Mitrovic, Scotland internationalist Matt Ritchie, England cap Jonjo Shelvey and 23-goal Dwight Gayle will lock horns with the Jambos, who boast an impressive array of new signings.
Northern Ireland internationalists Kyle Lafferty and Michael Smith will make their Tynecastle bows, along with Cole Stockton, Rafal Grzelak and Ashley Smith-Brown.
Leading by example will be skipper Christophe Berra, who returned to the club in the summer after several seasons plying his trade in the English Premier League and Championship.
No stranger to facing the might of Newcastle, he can’t wait to once again run out in front of thousands of Hearts fans.
“They’ve just got promoted and have great players,” said Christophe, speaking to the official Hearts Matchday Programme. “In one of my last games for Ipswich we beat them 3-1 at Portman Road, so I’ve got good memories of that.
“Their team is full of international players so it’ll be a tough game for us, but it’s one we’re looking forward to.
“It’s another game to build towards the first competitive game of the season on Tuesday at Elgin City. That’s our main aim, to start our competitive games well.
“With the fans’ backing hopefully we can take steps forward and get challenging back up the top end of the table.”
