Hearts were defeated by St Johnstone in this afternoon's match at McDiarmid Park.
Goals from Ali Crawford and Jamie McCart were enough for the hosts to beat the Jambos, whose response came from Nate Atkinson.
Craig Gordon and Liam Boyce missed out due to illness while Michael Smith and Beni Baningime also dropped out. The skipper's absence meant an appearance in goals for Ross Stewart.
After just 45 seconds, Melker Hallberg found space in the area and squared for Crawford to sweep the ball home from the penalty spot.
Hearts made a quick response, however, when Barrie McKay's shot hit the post from the edge of the area and Atkinson followed up well to finish between the legs of Elliot Parish.
It could have been 2-1 to the visitors within the opening ten minutes when Ellis Simms met a cross at the far post but his effort lacked power and bounced back off the woodwork.
Murray Davidson then came close to adding a second for the Saintees when his shot from the edge of the area flew just pass the post.
Into the second half, and early on, Josh Ginnelly got in behind the home defence to square for Simms in the area but he blazed the ball over the bar from close range.
The hosts then took the lead from a set piece. Crawford's floated free kick was met by an unchallenged McCart at the back post and he headed into the corner of the net.
Hearts attempted a response and Stephen Kingsley's corner was powered goalwards by John Souttar but Parrish produced a great save.
It was all out attack in the final stages as Souttar was thrown up front, but Simms had a big chance as he burst into the area and brought out another fine save. From the corner, the ball seemed to stop on the line under pressure from Peter Haring but nothing was awarded by the officials.
The final chance never materialised in stoppage time for the Jambos who head down the road without any points.
