Hearts U20s marched through to the semi-finals of the Scottish Youth Cup after beating Queen's Park 3-0 at Tynecastle this afternoon.

Dale Carrick, Gary Oliver and Nathan Flanagan were the goal heroes for the Wee Jambos as Robbie Neilson's lads endured a stern test in front of over 300 supporters.

It was the young maroons who started the brighter of the two teams, with Liam Smith firing balls into the box for Oliver and Carrick to connect with.

Despite the early pressure, the visitors could've broken the deadlock in the 8th minute. Connor McVey's half volley from the edge of the box whizzed past Jack Hamilton's left-hand post and wide.

Queen's Park then proceeded to enjoy a spell of possession and looked particularly dangerous on the counter attack. Gavin Mitchell nodded wide from inside the box before having a penalty claim turned down after the referee decided Smith did not handball in the area.

Hearts came back into the game with Carrick trying his luck from distance on two occasions. Both cleared the crossbar but there was a sense that the breakthrough was just around the corner.

That came in the 27th minute, with Oliver showing quick feet to feed in Carrick, and his low angled drive squirmed past Blair Lochhead in the queen's goal and into the back of the net.

The best chance of the match fell to Oliver, early in the second half. He found himself with the ball at his feet at the edge of the six yard box, and as he tried to prod home Lochhead made a brilliant block from point blank range.

Though he should've scored with that chance, Oliver made no mistake with the next. A wonderful cross from Angus Beith on the right saw Oliver leap to beat his man in the air and nod home from six yards.

A moment of sheer magic sealed the game for Hearts in the 68th minute, and it came courtesy of Flanagan. He ran with the ball and thumped a shot from 30 yards straight into the top corner, leaving Lochhead no chance in the Queen's goal.

3-0 at full time, Hearts are in the hat for the semi-final draw.
