Craig Levein wants his players to be more clinical in front of goal when they take on East Fife tomorrow.
The final Group A game sees the Jambos head to Bayview looking to maintain their unbeaten start to the competition.
Wins against Cowdenbeath and Stenhousemuir, along with a bonus point victory against Dundee United have positioned the men in maroon at the top of the table, with the group winners advancing through to the next round.
Not shy in attacking, the Jam Tarts have rattled off more than 60 shots on goal over the course of those three games, but the manager is looking for a better return on Saturday and has revealed that hitting the target has been one of the main focuses in training this week.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference today, Craig said: “It depends on the stats you read; we’ve had between 65 and 75 goal attempts in the last three games, and we’ve scored five goals.
“We have to do the work to get ourselves into a position where we can win. We have to create the chances, we have to take the chances.
“The focus for us is keeping creating chances, and we do the work in training, and goals will come, I’m sure.
“We just do more finishing (in training) and try and keep focused on putting the ball in the back of the net clinically rather than trying to be too clever about it.
“There is nothing we can do about good defending, blocking shots and goalkeepers having worldies. There’s nothing we can do about that.
“We can focus on hitting the target, particularly from crosses and close range. That’s doable and that’s what we’ve been doing the last couple of days.”
