Gary Locke hailed his players for their 'battling performance' as Hearts left Easter Road with all three points in today's SPFL Premiership clash.
Two headers in five minutes from Callum Paterson gave the Jambos a half-time lead and, although Jordon Forster's header reduced arrears, the young Hearts side held on to claim a famous win.
After the match, the gaffer admitted he'd have swapped Hearts' four victories over their fierce rivals for a place in next season's Premiership, but conceded that he was still very pleased with the result.
"I'm over the moon today", he said. We've on a decent wee run of late. Today you saw a different side of the boys, they had to battle to win a really physical game which I was extremely proud of."
"Obviously we're disappointed at going down, and we'd have swapped the 4 wins for staying up, but we've really started playing well the last few months. All the credit must go to the boys for the hard work."
The Hibees have been on a well-documented poor run of form, but the gaffer was under no illusions as to how difficult the match would be given the depth of their squad, and the Jambos were made to work extremely hard for the win.
"We expected Hibs to be up for it today", he explained. "In the position they're in, they've given everything and I fully expect them to stay up. I thought Hibs put us under a lot of pressure. If they can play like that every week they should win."
Lastly, the manager praised his side - finding their form now, with 13 points out of 15 gained recently - for working hard to improve themselves all season, which is now paying dividends with some excellent wins.
"It's a relaxing end to the season - although the last 20 minutes weren't relaxing at all - but the pressure's off now, and the boys are fitter and stronger. It's a delight to see."
"We've got the nucleus of a really good side here. I thought we missed Jamie Hamill today, especially second half, but I couldn't fault anybody. We were outstanding."
