Loan Watch

26th August 2019

Several of Hearts’ young stars were in action for their loan clubs at the weekend, read on to find out how they got on…

Alex Petkov – Clyde

The Bulgarian U21 cap marked his fourth 90 minutes in a row with an impressive win and clean sheet against League One title favourites Falkirk.

Hearts’ 2018/19 reserve team player of the year helped the Bully Wee’s defence keep the Bairns at bay as they secured 1-0 home win thanks to Mark Lamont’s 34th minute goal.

The victory was Clyde’s first of the league campaign, taking them up to 9th in the League One table. Up next is a home game against Forfar Athletic on Saturday.

Connor Smith and Chris Hamilton – Cowdenbeath

The on-loan Hearts duo played the full 90 minutes for the second match on the bounce as the Blue Brazil defeated Annan Athletic 3-1.

Former Jambo Robbie Buchanan opened the scoring at Central Park in the first half before Connor bagged his first Cowdenbeath – and senior – goal in the 70th minute, after another former Hearts man, Christian Nade, had earlier equalised.

Completing the maroon connection was Fraser Mullen, who put the game to bed with five minutes remaining.

That win moves the Fife side up to 5th in the League Two table, and they meet Brechin City at Central Park on Saturday.

Daniel Baur – Bonnyrigg Rose Athletic

The Rose continued their blistering Lowland League form with a 2-0 win away to Cumbernauld Colts.

Daniel recorded his fifth Bonnyrigg appearance at Broadwood, helping to keep a clean sheet as they opened up a four-point gap on second placed Kelty Hearts.

They host Caledonian Braves at New Dundas Park on Saturday.

Leeroy Makovora – Spartans

Striker Leeroy endured a frustrating afternoon on his debut at Ainslie Park, despite Spartans beating Gretna 2008 1-0 in the Lowland League.

Handed a full debut, Leeroy’s 78th minute run into the Gretna box saw him upended but despite those in attendance anticipating a penalty award, the referee instead flashed a second yellow for diving and sent him packing.
