Liam Smith admits he couldn't have wished for a better start to his run in the first team, having helped Hearts secure victory in their last three league outings.
The young right-back was given the nod to start his first league game against Inverness CT and his assured performance was enough to earn him starting berths against Partick Thistle and Dundee.
Speaking to Hearts TV ahead of Saturday’s clash with St Johnstone, Liam said:
“It’s been brilliant so far, obviously it was unexpected but Callum’s injury meant I got the chance. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it so far, clean sheets and wins – you can’t ask for much more!
“I’ve been part of a young defence but they’ve all got experience of playing at this level and it makes it easier for me to come in and perform.
“Playing at Tynecastle is fantastic as well and now it’s just about keeping the run going, starting with St Johnstone tomorrow.”
Liam was handed a further boost during the week when he received a call-up to the Scotland U21 squad. He’ll join up with Ricky Sbragia’s men when they take on France and Northern Ireland later this month.
“I was over the moon with the call-up. I’ve played once at U19s level so to be called into the U21 squad is fantastic. There’s some great players there, many of them are at Hearts, so I can’t wait to get going.”
