Kingsley: Team striving for improvement

6th August 2021

Stephen Kingsley insists there’s always room for improvement as Hearts target another three points at St Mirren on Saturday.

Buoyed by last weekend’s thrilling win over Celtic, confidence in the dressing room is high as the Jambos prepare to head west to face the Buddies this weekend.

Defender Stephen isn’t getting carried away with things however, as he revealed the team has already pinpointed where they need to improve before Saturday's cinch Premiership encounter in Paisley.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, he said: “We’ve been banging on about it all week now but it’s about carrying that on and progressing into the St Mirren game.

“We’ve taken a look at the post match game and look at areas that we did well in, areas to take forward with positives and also areas that we can look to improve on.

“It’s a relatively new shape, though we played a bit of it at the tail end of last season and into pre-season, so there are still areas we can definitely work on and look to take forward into the St Mirren game.

“It’s going to be a different challenge from last Saturday but it’s one we’re looking forward to.”

That new shape has seen Stephen deployed in a left centre-half role. It’s one he’s enjoying as he looks to build on a blossoming partnership down the left flank with Brighton loannee Alex Cochrane.

“It’s been great, having Alex in,” he said. “We’re both left-backs but the positions that we’ve been playing just now have been working really well.

“We’re feeling comfortable in it. There are still, obviously, some areas we need to work on but we feel strong, we feel confident and I’m enjoying playing these games and the new challenges that are coming with being in the Premiership again.”
