Hearts were victorious in today’s D&K Lafferty Challenge Cup tournament in Oban, lifting the trophy.
The Jambos won three, drew one and lost one game in the round-robin tournament, with Jordan McGhee winning player of the tournament.
Robbie Neilson’s lads kicked-off the competition with a dominating 3-0 win over Alloa Athletic. McGhee opened the scoring with Gary Oliver quickly adding another before bagging his second of the match.
The men in maroon then saw off St Johnstone 2-1, courtesy of Juanma and Oliver strikes.
Dundee Utd held Hearts in the third match after Jordan Muir cancelled out Callum Paterson’s blistering long-range strike.
A shock defeat was on the cards for the maroons, with local side Oban Saints recording a 2-1 win despite Sam Nicholson opening the scoring with a solo wonder-goal.
The final match of the afternoon was winner takes all, and the Jambos duly obliged. Nicholson’s first-half strike was enough to bag the win and the tournament trophy.
