Austin MacPhee took his Hearts side North for a gruelling St Andrews training session yesterday.
The Interim Manager decided on a change of scenery and conditions ahead of Saturday’s Ladbrokes Premiership match against St Mirren, with the boys put through their paces in challenging terrain.
The first-team squad, including the likes of Steven Naismith and Jamie Walker, worked up a sweat on St Andrews United’s Barnett Park ahead of a second day of training on the East coast today.
Speaking to HeartsTV, Austin said: “I think that coming here allows us to train more, have more focus, have more time with the players and make sure that they’re crystal clear in what we want them to do on Saturday.
“It’s our last home game for a period as well and it’s so important that we give the supporters a performance.
“This allows us to spend longer with the players and allows us to make sure that we cover absolutely everything that we want to going into the game.
“I also like the environment here. We’re at a Juniors ground just now, there’s a hill on it and we want to make sure that the way that we train is difficult and demanding, and they’re ready to fly out of the traps at Tynecastle on Saturday.
“If we can do that then the supporters will come with us and hopefully we’ll beat a very well organised St Mirren team.”
