Neil Alexander believes yesterday’s successful season ticket launch proves that the Hearts support will continue their phenomenal backing into the next season’s Premiership campaign.
1,000 season tickets have been sold in 24 hours as eager Jambos snap up their seats and join the #SteppingUp bandwagon.
That early commitment has the Tynecastle ‘keeper convinced that the men in maroon will run out to full houses again in the top tier.
Speaking to the press this morning, Neil said: “The crowd has been absolutely fantastic. It’s just a credit to the club and the club wouldn’t be here without the fans.
“The fans are so important and they’ve helped the team get through some tough games this year. I think the fans deserve the club to be where it is, and to get back into the Premiership is fantastic and hopefully they back us next year like they have done this year.
“With the season ticket sales that have happened already it looks like that’s going to happen. The more the merrier and hopefully they can get behind the team like the have this year.”
The 37-year-old has been a near ever-present in the top team this year, bagging 14 clean sheets in 29 games, and he insists he has no plans to hang up his gloves any time soon.
“I want to keep playing for as along as I can,” he said. “I’m really enjoying it this year and I feel great. It’s been a good season for me and I’m contracted again to play next season as well.
“I was watching the FA Cup semi-final and Shay Given was playing at 39 years of age, so I’ve hopefully got a few more years left in me. I’d like to play for as long as I can and then step into the coaching, which I’m starting just now.
“As long as my body keeps going, I’ll keep playing. Until it tells me differently, or the manager tells me different, I’ll keep playing and try and vie for the first-team jersey as long as I can.”
