Bobby Burns started for Northern Ireland U21s in last night’s 1-1 draw with Finland U21s.
The Jambos full-back was substituted in injury time as Ian Baraclough’s side chased the winner in Oulu but ultimately had to settle for a share of the spoils after Blackburn Rovers’ Lewis Thompson cancelled out Valakari’s opener for the hosts.
The result leaves Northern Ireland fourth in Group 8 of the U21 Euro Qualifiers, two points off first-placed Finland.
Alex Petkov played 90 minutes for Bulgaria U21s in their 0-0 qualifying match with Russia U21s.
The Bulgarians sit second in Group 5, two points behind Poland in first..
Meanwhile Glenn Whelan was an unused substitute in Republic of Ireland’s friendly win over Bulgaria.
Whelan won his 88th cap in the midweek Euro 2020 qualifying draw with Switzerland but didn’t make it on to the pitch at the Aviva Stadium last night as goals from Alan Browne, Kevin Long and James Collins handed the hosts a comfortable win, with Ivelin Popov responding for the Bulgarians.
