First Team

International Round-Up

14th October 2019

Several Hearts players have featured for their respective national teams over the past few days.

Glenn Whelan played the full match as Republic of Ireland drew 0-0 away to Georgia on Saturday. The point keeps Ireland top of their Euro 2020 qualifying group, level with Denmark.

Midfielder Glenn could feature again when Mick McCarthy’s side travel to Geneva to face Switzerland tomorrow night in a crunch Group D clash.

Ryotaro Meshino pulled on the blue of Japan for the first time when, last Thursday, the U22s ran out 3-0 winners over Brazilian side Sao Paulo’s U20s team in a bounce game.

Ryo is in line to win his first U22s cap tonight when Japan face Brazil U22s at the Arena Pernambuco in Sao Lourenco de Mata.

Chris Hamilton played 90 minutes for Scotland U19s on Saturday in their 2-0 win over Andorra in Dumbarton. Coventry City’s Jack Borroughs and Jamie Hamilton of Hamilton Accies bagged the goals to secure a vital U19s Euro Qualifier win.

The young Scots are back in action tomorrow night when they face Germany at Firhill, and a win would take Billy Stark’s side through to the Elite Round.

Alex Petkov featured for Bulgaria’s U21s in their 1-0 U21 Euro Qualifiers loss to Serbia in Sofia.

They return to action against Latvia tomorrow night, and currently sit fourth in Group 5, two points off leaders Poland.

Michael Smith could add to his seven Northern Ireland caps tonight when Michael O’Neill’s side face the Czech Republic in a friendly match in Prague.
