Ian Cathro expressed his delight for his players after Wednesday night’s dramatic Scottish Cup replay victory over Raith rovers.
The Tynecastle faithful were treated to a highly entertaining encounter that saw Hearts run out 4-2 winners after extra time. Speaking to the press post-match, the Head Coach praised his players for overcoming such a stern test.
“It was a big test for the players to get through that and we did. For that reason I’m really just pleased for them that they have that reward,” Ian explained.
“It was perhaps tougher than what we would have liked but sometimes that’s a good challenge to have. I’m really pleased for them.”
Hearts’ reward for their efforts is a mouth-watering home tie against city rivals Hibs in the Fifth Round of the Scottish Cup. The Edinburgh derby will take place at Tynecastle on either the 11th or 12th of February.
“Hibs will be an absolutely massive game and one which will have everybody’s excitement at peak levels,” said Ian.
“Those are the games that all of us love the most.
“For us it’s about moving on to the next round of the cup. Doing so would of course mean taking the cup away from Hibs and I’m sure that’s something everyone at Hearts would like to be able to do.
“We have some great opportunities ahead, however, the first being Celtic. That’s the match we focus on first."
Finally, Ian expressed his delight for Sam Nicholson who made a substitute appearance to mark his recovery from a four-month injury layoff.
“It was great to see him back in action. I love the energy he has, he’s got talent and drive and I like his style. I look forward to getting to know him better. “
