HYDC monthly draw

4th October 2013

£5 a month will help provide vital funding to Football Academy to continue its conveyor belt of talent in coming seasons.

The Hearts Youth Development Committee (HYDC) today re-launches its monthly draw - at a time when the club's Football Academy has never been more important.

With all but three of the current first-team squad Academy-produced, the club's cherished youth development system is playing a central part in the club's brave fight for survival.

Scotland U21 star Kevin McHattie, whose player development fee from Dunfermline Athletic was paid for by HYDC, said: "I wouldn't have been able to come to Hearts had it not been for HYDC.

"Hopefully supporters will recognise the brilliant job HYDC does and feel able to sign up to the monthly draw."

Originally set up in 1991, HYDC has played a critical role at the club in recent years, and raises over £50,000 annually.

Every penny raised is used by Academy Director John Murray, in agreement with HYDC, to enhance operations at the Football Academy and in recent times, HYDC has helped to purchase medical equipment such as defibrillators for every academy team, invested in performance analysis software and financed youth team trips to take part in major international tournaments.

Speaking to Hearts News, John said "HYDC has been pivotal to much of the work we've done at the club over the last few years. Without them we wouldn't have a team on the pitch right now, I am sure of it.

"I know supporters have been asked to repeatedly dig deep in recent times but hopefully they see how important a funding stream like this is to Hearts."

Entry to the HYDC Monthly Draw is just £5 and prizes range from £50-£500 per month. Winning tickets are drawn at half-time during the first home game of each month.

Calum Robertson, HYDC chairman added: "Hearts has always had a reputation for producing fine young players but it has never been more apparent that now, with a first team squad almost exclusively made up of home grown players.

"That's why the HYDC Monthly Draw is so important. Along with one-off events we hold each year, it is a vital funding stream to support the Academy."
