Hearts Women 2-0 Stirling University
Hearts celebrated consecutive wins for the first time this season after defeating Stirling University in the SWPL Cup.
The game, as a whole, was a dogged, tough affair with neither side being able to carve out a considerable amount of clear cut chances. The Jambos were forced into an early change inside ten minutes when left midfielder Ellis Dalgliesh had to be replaced by Claire Delworth after a knock to her shin.
It took until the final two minutes of the half before the deadlock was broken. Aisha Maughan picked up the ball around 20 yards out from goal, turned the defender and cannoned a shot against the crossbar before the ball fell kindly to Lisa Swanson who grabbed her second goal in five days.
The second half started brightly for Hearts as Louise McDaniel broke after a lapse of concentration by the Stirling defence but could only find the side netting. Hearts then almost fell victim to their own mistake as an errant backpass almost resulted in an own goal but was thankfully, calmly collected in the end by Parker-Smith in the Jambo’s goal.
And with only a couple of minutes left, Hearts put the game to bed with a fantastic finish from substitute Taylor Hamill after a big switch was perfectly trapped, the defender was rounded and the ball was fired into the top corner from 20 yards- leaving the Stirling keeper no chance.
