Hearts Women ended their SWPL Cup campaign with a 0-0 draw against Partick Thistle at Oriam.
There was a place in the starting XI for Maria McAneny after her loan move from Celtic, while Eva Olid was in the dugout for her first match at the club.
The first half was a scrap with Hearts controlling possession, but it was marred by injuries to a number of Thistle players, who used their full complement of substitutions by the half-hour mark.
In the seven minutes of stoppage time, Hearts had their first opportunity when Jenny Smith drove at the Thistle defense and shot from distance, with her swerving effort almost deceiving keeper Lauren McGregor who made a fine stop with her feet.
Into the second period, and Monica Forsyth tried to find her shooting boots, cutting in from the right-wing to go for goal but her left-footed drive flew over the bar. Moments later, McAneny won a free kick on the edge of the area and her left-footed free-kick whistled just past the post from 22 yards.
Forsyth had a go from distance again just after the hour mark, and that would be her last contribution as a tactical reshuffle saw Aimee Anderson go to the left-wing, and McAneny switching to the right.
The change seemed to work, with McAneny now at the heart of everything, and her left foot seemed to be finding its range, with a stinging drive from 25 yards being pushed away by McGregor. On 75 minutes, Hearts must have thought they’d done enough. Amelie Birse did well to work the ball to McAneny in the area, she set herself for the shot but out of nowhere a Thistle body appeared to divert it away from goal.
Georgia Hunter nearly capped a superb defensive display with a goal late on as her header was deflected over, but it wasn’t to be as Hearts dominated the match without the win and departed the SWPL Cup, despite three good performances and two clean sheets from their group stage matches.
