Club to holds its annual Remembrance Day Service at Haymarket this Sunday.
Annual Service of Remembrance
Haymarket Memorial, Edinburgh
Sunday 13th November 2016, starts 10:40am sharp.
The club will holds its annual Remembrance Service at the Hearts War Memorial at Haymarket this coming Sunday.
This year marks the centenary of the Battle of the Somme and accordingly the club is again expecting a larger than usual attendance at the traditional Haymarket ceremony.
Following discussions with Police Scotland and the City of Edinburgh Council, a road closure and safety plan has been agreed. The club will take responsibility for the operation and stewarding of the event and is grateful for the assistance of all attendees to make it a respectful and safe experience for all visitors.
The club will steward the island around the Memorial itself and has again this year been requested to restrict the numbers who can stand here due to concerns about road safety (Haymarket Terrace remains open with trams passing by throughout). Entry to the island will be by invitation only.
We request all attendees to gather on Morrison Street. We specifically request that people do not congregate at the corner of Grosvenor Street or on the crossing at Dalry Road as the experience of the service is less than ideal from these vantage points.
Loud speakers will be in place to broadcast the ceremony in Morrison St and due to the large numbers expected, Morrison St will be closed to all vehicles and optimum access routes are shown on the map at the foot of this article.
Conducted by Club Chaplain Andy Prime, the service will be attended by the entire first-team squad, coaching staff and members of the Board and Orders of Service for the day will be distributed to all in attendance.
Hearts Club Captain Perry Kitchen will perform a reading during the ceremony.
The service will begin at 10:40, finishing around 11:10 and we respectfully advise visitors to arrive early.
The road closure of Morrison St will be in effect from circa 9.30am until 12.00pm.
We look forward to welcoming you at this special time of remembrance.
