Genero Zeefuik was a happy man as he basked in the glory of his first Hearts hat-trick, and the fastest in the club’s history.
The Dutch striker notched a treble in three minutes and thirty four seconds - 214 seconds to be precise - as Hearts blitzed Cowdenbeath 10-0 in Saturday’s Scottish Championship encounter.
The on-loan hit man scored a brace of penalties, sandwiched by a long range effort, as the Jambos went in at half time 5-0 to the good, and after the match Genero revealed he remembered his Hearts debut when scoring the third.
“I’ve never scored a quicker hat-trick, I’ve only scored one before!” said Genero. “It all happened very quickly. I took the first penalty, then I had a shot that went in about a minute later.
“Then when I got the second penalty, I remembered my first game at Dumbarton when I missed a penalty to score my hat-trick there, so I was happy to score. It was my first hat-trick since I scored one for the Holland U21s in a qualifier.”
“It’s the first time I’ve been involved in a game with so many goals. It was a hard game for Cowdenbeath, they tried the best they could with ten men but we were too good, the whole team played so well.”
Finally, Genero showed the press his match ball that referee Bobby Madden awarded to him after the game, and the signatures his teammates had left for him on it.
“The players all signed the match ball for me, it’s a very special day for me.
"I’m going to take the ball back to Holland, frame it and I’ll display it in my house for my family to see.”
