Hearts Women were surprised at training on Friday evening with a visit from Craig Gordon
The men’s team captain popped up to Oriam to present Charlotte Parker-Smith with her award for winning the Scottish Women’s Football Save of the Season award, for her stunning flying stop to deny Priscila Chinchilla of Glasgow City.
The skipper also posed for pictures with the squad, before wishing them good luck ahead of last weekend’s SWPL Cup opener against St Johnstone.
Charlotte was the clear winner of the award, voted for by supporters, assisted by Craig’s help in sharing the save on social media and encouraging Hearts fans to vote for her.
After receiving the award, Charlotte said “It was a lovely surprise on Friday to meet Craig, and to receive the award from him. Obviously he is a massive player for Hearts, he is hugely respected at the club and other goalkeepers like me can learn from watching him. It really was a pleasure to meet him.
“I knew it was important in the context of the game but the save itself felt reasonably comfortable. It was tricky because as the player hit it I lost sight of it a bit as there were players in the way, but I knew which way it was going. I enjoy making those kinds of saves, particularly against a team like Glasgow City.
“I was really pleased to win an award voted for by the fans. I am grateful for everyone who took the time to vote and share it on social media. I think having Save of the Season and Goal of the Season voted for by the public encourages interaction with the women's game which increases publicity and I am all for that.
