Godinho helps Canada to Gold Cup QF

24th June 2019

Marcus Godinho returned to Canada’s starting line up as they went goal crazy against Cuba to qualify for the knockout stage of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The Jambos right back played 90 minutes in their Group A match in Charlotte, North Carolina as the Canadians put seven past their opponents without reply.

The win was Marcus’ second appearance at the tournament and his third cap overall.

Jonathan David and Luis Cavallini both hit hat-tricks for Canada, with Junior Hoilett also getting on the scoresheet.

Mexico’s narrow 3-2 win over Martinique meant Godinho’s side finished in second place and with it secured a spot in the competition’s quarter finals.

They will face either Costa Rica or Haiti in Houston on June 29th for a place in the semi finals.
