Most Hearts fans will recognise new signing Ryan Edwards from his time at Partick Thistle, but how much do you really know about the Jambos' new midfielder?
Read on to find out more...
Ryan comes from a football family. His dad, Alistair, enjoyed a long playing career in Australia with Sydney Olympic and Perth Glory, after brief spells on these shores with Rangers, Brighton and Hove Albion and Millwall.
Capped 19 times for Australia, he’s managed Perth Glory and has been Technical Director of Malaysian side Real Mulia since 2015.
Big brother Cameron is also a professional footballer. He’s played for Perth Glory and is currently at National Premier League Western Australia outfit Cockburn City.
In 2013, Ryan spent a year on loan at Perth Glory, playing alongside Cameron and under the tutelage of his father.
The dynamic midfielder is no stranger to the Australian international set up.
He captained the U20s side and was part of the 2013 FIFA U20s World Cup squad.
Ryan made 18 appearances for Australia’s U23s and was called up to the senior side in 2017.
He may be a new signing but Ryan will be surrounded by familiar faces at Hearts.
Fellow summer signing Ben Garuccio was a teammate of Ryan’s at the Australian Institute of Sport, and they played together with Australia’s U20s and U23s sides.
While at Reading, he linked up with Uche Ikpeazu, Hearts’ new striker who joins the Jambos from Cambridge United.
He also did battle down south with some current Hearts stars, coming up against Christophe Berra at Ipswich Town and Don Cowie at Wigan Athletic.
