Heart of Midlothian FC is in mourning today after the tragic death of our dear colleague Elaine Spence at the age of just 40.
A loving mum to daughters Amy (12) and Kristen (17), Elaine had been bravely battling illness for the last three years but finally lost her fight yesterday surrounded by family and friends.
A hugely popular member of the Tynecastle staff since joining the club in 2006, Elaine was an uplifting presence throughout some of our toughest times
Paying tribute to Elaine, Ann Budge said: “Our Assistant Ticket Centre Manager, Elaine was well known to many of our supporters, who I am sure will join everyone here at the club in offering our deepest sympathies to mum Martha, dad John, brothers Stephen and Scott and, of course, Amy and Kristen and her wider family and friends at this incredibly sad time.
“Elaine was loved by all at the club and will be very sadly missed. During the last few months, whenever her treatment would allow, she was regularly to be seen in Tynecastle offering help and support in any way possible.
“She will be long remembered for the way she inspired everyone in her handling of adversity.”
As a mark of respect, the team will be wearing black armbands in tomorrow night’s Scottish Championship game against Raith Rovers at Stark’s Park.
