Heart of Midlothian Football Club is delighted to be supporting Police Scotland as they enter their annual festive campaign to increase motorists’ awareness of the risks associated with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Inspector Roger Park of Edinburgh’s Road Policing Unit said: “Police Scotland want people to enjoy themselves when they are out and about but our message is that if you want to have an alcoholic drink then don’t drive.
"Drinking and driving can kill, and being involved in a road traffic collision can be life changing in terms of injuries while a drink driving conviction can impact on your job and career. Likewise, drinking to excess can make you less aware of your surroundings and could shorten your reaction times to vehicles and other road users and consequently lead to a road traffic collision.
"Please remember that if you have been drinking and intend to drive the next day you may still be over the limit so allow time for the alcohol to get out of your system before getting behind the wheel.”
When out enjoying the festive season the advice is to plan ahead and think about how you are going to get home. The message is quite simple: The best approach is none.
