Deserved victory

20th October 2018

Craig Levein says Hearts were worth their win over Aberdeen today and has praised the entire team for their performance.

Arnaud Djoum and Steven Naismith goals were enough to seal all three points, despite Gary Mackay-Steven halving the deficit in the second half.

Missing several key players through injury, the manager was delighted with how his side performed, with quality on display in all areas of the pitch.

Speaking after the game, Craig said: “The first half was particularly satisfying. I just wish that we’d got the goals we deserved for our performance in the first half and then it would have been slightly easier.

“At 2-0 you’re always vulnerable but the performance was really, really good and not to have some of the players we were missing, all credit to the lads.

“I’ve talked at length about the strength of the squad. It was good to see Oliver Bozanic come in and do well, Clevid did well.

“Young Marcus hasn’t even been involved in a reserve game but we had rush him back in to play and all of them were excellent.”

“He (Naismith) was brilliant wasn’t he? You’d never have known that he’s played two 90 minutes for Scotland. His energy is just incredible and him and Steven MacLean were brilliant in the first half.

“We’ve got a tough match up at Dundee on Tuesday now then we’ve got a cup tie next weekend, so we’re going to need plenty of energy for those games, but we’ll just enjoy this victory tonight and I’ll start thinking about the rest tomorrow.”
