Danny: Winning all that matters

31st December 2014

Skipper says Hearts will play usual brand of football in derby but only aim is to win.

Danny Wilson says Hearts won’t sacrifice their style of play in Saturday’s derby against Hibs, but insists getting a result is all that matters.

The capital rivals lock horns this weekend in the first derby of 2015, and while the skipper believes both sides will attempt to play their usual game he knows that getting all three points is the most important thing.

Talking at his pre-match press conference, Danny said: “We’re a footballing team, as are Hibs, so I’m sure we’ll both be trying to play the game in the right manner. Hopefully it’ll be a good game for everybody to watch and we can get the points.

“That’ll be the most important thing at the end of the day as style won’t win you points, it’s the result that’s going to matter.  We’ll be going out there to do our best and trying to win the game.”

Danny understands the significance of the fixture, and just how tough it can be. He points, however, to the previous meeting between the two sides at Easter Road as an example of how his teammates can handle the pressure.

“It could be one of the toughest games of the year,” he said. “The game down there, we were behind for so long in the game and we scored really late on after going down to ten men, so it showed that day that we’ve got a lot of character in the team. It was a big moment in the season for us.

“As for this game, you can never predict what’s going to happen. They’re in a good bit of form, as are we, so it should be a good game.

“Derbies always take care of themselves so we’ll just look forward to the game and we’ll see what happens.

“It’s going to be a big game. Every game we’ve played so far has been a big one because we’re on this run.

“We’re at the top of the league so any game that we encounter is a big game. We want to keep getting three points and moving forward the way we are.

“Obviously it’s a derby so its got that added wee bit to it but we’re not really looking at it like that, we’re looking at it as just another game and just trying to get another three points on the board.”
