Craig: Win can cap off big week

14th March 2019

Craig Levein is aiming to cap off the perfect week with a win against Hamilton Academical.

Hearts travel to the Hope CBD Stadium on Saturday off the back of a Ladbrokes Premiership victory at Dundee and progressing into the William Hill Scottish semi finals after defeating Partick Thistle in midweek.

The manager knows Accies will prove a tricky test for his side but he’ll be sending the Jambos out to try and win all three points as they continue to look up the league table.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Craig said: “It’s been a big week for us. I said before last week’s game that if we could come out of this week with good performances and points, and also having progressed to the semi finals of the cup, then I would be happy.

“But to do that we’ve got to beat Hamilton away from home. They’ve had a little bit of a resurgence under Brian so I expect that to be fairly difficult.

“We’re two thirds of the way there. It would be a significant move towards guaranteeing our top six spot, which is the first thing that we need to deal with so we’ll be doing our best to win the game.

“Anybody who goes up to Aberdeen and gets all three points is obviously capable of beating just about anybody in the league. It’ll be a tough game for us.

“On their day they’re a good side. That’s the same with a lot of teams in this league. If you come up against them and they’re in really good form and having a good day then it’ll be difficult for us.

“We have to do our best. Hamilton will play the way they play. We have got to play at our best to give us the best possible chance of winning.”

Meanwhile, Craig confirmed that Steven Naismith’s surgery was successful and he’s got his fingers crossed that the Scotland international will pull on the maroon jersey again before the season is out.

“It (the surgery) went very well,” he said. Steven’s quite happy, and so is the surgeon, with the operation. I think there is a decent chance that he’ll play again before he end of the season.”
