Craig: Players hungry for success

20th September 2018

Craig Levein believes his players are amongst the hungriest for success that he’s ever worked with.

The Jambos have enjoyed a blistering start to the season, winning all five Ladbrokes Premiership games and going a total of 10 matches unbeaten in all competitions.

Livingston visit Tynecastle on Saturday and the manager - voted Manager of the Month for August - is anticipating another difficult game, and has pointed to the depth of his squad as key factor in the first-team maintain their levels of performance.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Craig said: “I think that we have a stronger squad, which keeps players on their toes.

“They just need to look over at the bench at times when they’re playing and think ‘wait a minute, I need to do more or do better to stay in the team.’

“That’s a good weapon for a manager to have. That’s one of the main things.

“The other thing is I’m certain that this group of players is as hungry a team as I’ve ever worked with which, for me, brings that intensity, every day in training and in matches, that you need to be successful in this league.

“I trust them, which is, I suppose, a good place to start. I don’t have any doubts about the attitude of any of the players, which is another good thing.

“I think we’ve yet to be fully tested. It’s a little bit irritating that we’ve got a few injuries already this season, but I suppose that’s the benefit of having a good squad.

“Can I see Hearts being up there at Easter? I don’t see why not.

“We’ve lost Christophe, which is a big blow. I would much rather have him available than not have him available. Hopefully we’ll get him back in December, ready to go for the second part of the season.

“I think we need to keep everybody fit, our best players in particular, and hopefully we can keep churning out the results.

“We’ve got a tough game on Saturday against Livingston, who have won their last three matches.

“I think that’s a warning in itself that we can’t afford to go into this match other than completely and 100% focused on our jobs, and trying to do the things we’ve done properly in the last little while, trying to keep them going again on Saturday.”
