Craig Levein insists he has no qualms about handing Jimmy Dunne his Hearts debut at Kilmarnock tomorrow after Aaron Hughes was ruled out through injury.
A calf knock prevents the Northern Ireland defender from making the squad for the Rugby Park encounter, which could result in a first appearance for Burnley loanee Dunne.
Craig believes the 20-year-old has what it takes to impress in a maroon shirt, and revealed he’s had his eye on the big centre-back for a while.
“Aaron went off last week with a calf strain,” said Craig. “He misses out on Saturday. We managed to bring Jimmy in, which I’m pleased about.
“He’s a young lad with a great future ahead of him, and I’m sure he can help us at this minute in time.
“I’m hoping that he’s ready to play in the first-team straightaway, obviously. He’s had two loan spells; one at Barrow and the second was at Accrington, where he helped them to win the league last year.
“I’ve known about him for a while. I remember him from when he was at Manchester United and he’s kicked on from then with his move to Burnley.
“I feel he’s got the attributes that can help us at this minute in time.”
