Craig Levein left Tolka Park a happy man after his young side dismantled Shelbourne in a 7-0 pre-season win.
Goals from Steven MacLean, Jake Mulraney, Sean Clare, Craig Wighton, Dario Zanatta, Connor Smith and Christophe Berra sealed victory for the Jambos in their second pre-season game of the campaign.
“Obviously, I expected to win the match,” Craig said. “It’s always quite difficult in pre-season training when players haven’t got their eye in or got full fitness but I’ve got to be pleased with the performance.”
The gaffer made several changes from the side that played Arbroath just two days ago, with Bobby Burns, Andy Irving, and six others coming in from the start.
“We had a little injury before the match started,” Craig explained. “Aaron Hickey felt his calf a bit tight in the warm-up, so we had to make a change and Bobby Burns went in at left-back.
“I thought all the younger players did well. Andy Irving did well in spells, Connor Smith and Dario [Zanatta] also. From that point of view, it’s good to see them making an impact.”
The 26-man-squad will now train in Dublin for four days before heading to Belfast to take on Glenavon on Saturday 6th July.
“It’ll be a more experienced side. We’ve got players who are waiting to make their debuts – Jamie Walker, Conor Washington, Craig Halkett.
“They’ll all be involved come the weekend. Uche [Ikpeazu] should be okay to be involved as well. I would certainly say it’ll be a stronger team.”
