Don Cowie believes Hearts' emphatic victory over Rangers will act as a great confidence boost heading into the remainder of the season.
A Robbie Muirhead double sealed a 2-0 win for the Jambos on Wednesday night and enabled them to leapfrog the Ibrox side into second place.
Hearts produced a ruthless display in front of a sold-out Tynecastle crowd and the midfielder was full of praise for the way the team went about their business.
Speaking to the media post-match, Don said:
“I thought it was a good all-round performance. We got the goal in the first half, I think we earned it, and that gave us real belief going into the second half.
“Getting the second goal gave us a bit of a cushion and I thought to a man we were terrific.
Hearts now have two consecutive victories to their name and head into Saturday’s clash at Ross County full of confidence.
“Six days ago I was asked whether there was a crisis here. Now all of a sudden we’re second in the league, so that says it all really,” said Don.
“I think credit goes to the players, every one of us a put in a shift. We had a gameplan and we stuck to it.
“We knew that a win would put us second and that was the real motivation for the team. It’s going to give us a lot of confidence going into the rest of the season.”
Finally, the ex-Cardiff City man reserved praise for Head Coach Robbie Neilson.
“I can only speak for the ten months I’ve been here, but he’s up there with the best I’ve played under.
“The way he goes about his man management, the way he looks after the players, the passion that he has. It’s second to none.”
