Jordan McGhee has revealed he was happy to commit his future to Hearts to help repay the faith shown in him by the club.
The 18-year-old signed a two-and-a-half-year deal yesterday which will see him stay at Tynecastle until the summer of 2017.
“I was always confident the deal would be done at some point,” said the Scotland U21 captain.
“I wanted to sign a new contract here and develop as much as I can at Hearts as the club has been good to me since I was a youngster.
“I have been here a while and want to repay their faith, so hopefully I can do well.”
Jordan broke into the first team at the age of 16, making his debut in a league game against St Mirren, and has been racking up the games since that landmark outing in May 2013.
“It has been a great experience so far,” he said. “To have come through administration and be on our way back up is great. Everything is positive now and hopefully it’s all positive for me as well.
“The aim is to get back into the Premiership as soon as possible and make one of the centre-half positions mine in the coming seasons.
“I can play at right-back but prefer the central defender role as that’s where I see myself. It’s only quite recently that I have had to play at right-back and I thought I did a decent job but I want to be a centre-half.”
