Community developments at Hearts

20th February 2015

Club owner Ann Budge updates support on community and Big Hearts developments.

As we continue to develop the Club behind the scenes here at Tynecastle, I'd like to bring everyone up to date with some changes to the way our community initiatives are now being delivered.

BIG HEARTS

As some of you will have read previously, the Big Hearts Community Trust is implementing a new, very focused, strategy.  The focus is on providing specialist support to all generations of families, facing particularly difficult challenges.  The changes being put in place to make this happen are totally aligned with the Club's overarching community strategy.  This is an exciting time for everyone involved with Big Hearts and you can expect more news very shortly.

NEW COMMUNITY DEPARTMENT

A new community department has been set up within the Club which will take responsibility for running our football related community programmes. These will include community coaching and football development initiatives as well as the Sports Injury Centre, Hearts Legends football team and the increasingly popular Tynecastle Stadium tour.  Alan White will manage this new community department, having now concluded his secondment to Big Hearts.

We will continue to enjoy a positive partnership with the Scottish FA Football Development department and the funded programmes that the partnership provides. Last year we supported 350 grassroots and volunteer coaches through coach education courses at Tynecastle; 1000 primary pupils through Tesco Bank and Food Standards Agency schools coaching programmes; as well as guiding various clubs though the SFA's Quality Mark initiative and Positive Coaching Scotland workshops.

Through further community partnerships with the DPS Group, Jambos Kickback and Network Rail, over 700 young people had the opportunity to play on the Tynecastle pitch through the popular Half Time Heroes programme, holiday coaching courses and football fours festivals.

By creating the new community department within the Club we aim to further develop and extend our already established programme of activities, allowing an even greater number of young people, adults and groups to benefit from Hearts community programmes.

The Club website www.heartsfc.co.uk features a new community section. Click on 'Club' on the main menu bar to see all the programmes on offer.
