Hearts’ new frontman Esmael Goncalves has revealed the prospect of linking up with Ian Catrho once again was simply too good to turn down.
The 25-year-old, who enjoyed a successful spell with St Mirren back in 2013, joined Hearts from Cypriot side Anorthosis Famagusta for a fee of 200,000 Euros. Isma is no stranger to the Hearts management team, having previously worked with Ian at Portuguese club Rio Ave and with Austin MacPhee at The Buddies.
The Portuguese striker has penned a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Jambos and could be in line to make his debut against Rangers this evening.
“When I was in Portugal, even when things weren’t going well, Ian always supported me and helped me. He was the one who told me to go to St Mirren and that’s where I met Austin,” Isma explained.
“Austin was the same, he was always supporting me. So to come here and be able to work with both of them is amazing for me.
“I’m very happy. As soon as I heard that I had the chance to come here I said yes, so I’m happy to be back in Scotland.”
Isma’s spell with St Mirren saw him score against Hearts in the 2013 Scottish League Cup Final. He is now aiming to achieve more success in a maroon jersey and can’t wait to take to the field in front of his new supporters.
“Winning the Cup with St Mirren was a great moment but now I’m working to have a better moment with Hearts.
“I like pressure and I like it when people put pressure on me. It makes me work better.
“Hearts have spent money on me and now I must prove that it was a good move.”
