Big Hearts Introduce Edinburgh Memories

19th July 2018

This week Hearts' charity partner Big Hearts has launched ‘Edinburgh Memories’, a brand-new initiative to tackle loneliness amongst older people.

Edinburgh Memories takes its roots from Big Hearts’ successful Football Memories programme, using old pictures of iconic people and places across the city to encourage further social connections.

This new reminiscence group is led by Volunteer Big Hearts Supporters and will run twice a month, every 1st and 3rd Tuesday, at Tynecastle Park.

The inaugural session welcomed over 25 people from a wide range of backgrounds including older Hearts fans.

One of the participants, who brought along her mom and dad, said: “It’s been a lovely afternoon. I knew about Football Memories, but I thought my parents would feel more comfortable talking about their daily life in the 1950s. Indeed, they really enjoyed today and we will certainly be back!”

Big Hearts received the support from the People Postcode Lottery to extend their opportunities for over 65s who are particularly at risk of social isolation - leading to 4 reminiscence groups accessible at Tynecastle every month.

Edinburgh Memories: 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month, 1:45pm to 3:15pm

Football Memories: 2nd and last Tuesday of every month, 1:45pm to 3:15pm

The next Edinburgh Memories sessions, free and open to all, will take place on the 7th and 21st August.
