Christophe Berra has praised Uche Ikpeazu for his all-action performance in yesterday’s 1-1 draw with Rangers.
The big frontman was a perpetual nuisance against the Gers’ defence, making his presence felt time and time again.
He rattled the crossbar after only two minutes then got a crucial flick-on as Ryotaro Meshino opened the scoring four minutes later.
Captain Christophe hailed the striker’s contribution, along with the rest of his teammates, and insists every man in maroon needs to carry that kind of performance into their upcoming games.
“He (Uche) was massive for us,” he said. “In these type of games where the fullbacks are bombing on, he runs into space and isolates the centre half.
“Nobody wants to be left one on one with him as he’s big, quick, strong and powerful.
“He does have ability and as well and he is now fully fit so he needs to do that consistently.
“He has had a few good matches recently and he needs to do it next week as well.
“We all need to put in the work against lesser teams as we are nowhere near the standard of being able to just turn up and win.
“We need to grind out wins and win games the hard way first. We have been nowhere near the standard we know we’re capable of.
“This is a small step but it’s been nowhere near good enough.”
